Best Practices for Nightlife Establishments

Best Practices for Nightlife Establishment's handbook, which was created by the New York Police Department in conjunction with the New York City Hospitality Alliance.

We’re proud to release our third edition of the Best Practices for Nightlife Establishments handbook, which was created by the New York Police Department in conjunction with the New York City Hospitality Alliance.

It was designed to assist the nightlife industry in maintaining establishments which are safe and free from illegal activity, including drug sales, underage drinking, overconsumption of alcohol, violence, prostitution, assaults, and sex offenses, and what nightlife professionals should know about counterterrorism threats and preparedness.

These guidelines are suggested ways to achieve that goal. They are meant as a general roadmap for owners and managers, not as a list of laws applicable to all establishments and all situations.

We highly recommend you and your teams review this document and implement its recommendations as applicable to continue to help keep our city’s nightlife vibrant and safe.

The third edition is now available in both English and Spanish.

Buenas Prácticas para Centros Nocturnos

We have also included separate sections regarding how to respond to a serious criminal incident and what you should know about counterterrorism threats and preparedness. "Safe Night Out" is a preparedness video produced in cooperation with the NYPD and is available to owners and operators of eating and drinking establishments. To obtain the password to view the video please send a request to info@thenycalliance.org.

Use your best judgment while keeping these suggestions in mind and adapting them to your specific establishment.
