Melanie took over her Aunt’s legacy in 2013 and brought a new vision and strategy to the company. Her aunt created a New York Institution. For more than 41 years Ess-a-Bagel has been touted the number #1 bagel store in New York and the tristate area and with Melanie’s leadership the company has expanded their reach. Through her love and passion for the business she has created new opportunities to increase Ess-a-Bagel’s presence in New York City and she has continuously increased their sales and profitability year after year. Through her love and passion for the business and her creative tenacity, negotiation skills and innovative thinking she has opened up and created many revenue streams with various business lines including pick-up and delivery, catering and shipping (delivering bagels and spreads nationwide).
Ess-a-Bagel continues to operate as a family owned and operated business with tremendous foresight and a culture that emphasizes that sentiment. This is accomplished through a respectful, constructive and energetic style that Melanie and her Management Team bring to the store on a daily basis; guided by the objectives and principles of the company.
They have implemented strategies and processes to assist Ess-a Bagel in moving from a mom and pop operation to a larger more efficiently run operation, all the time maintaining a family approach and friendly/neighborhood environment for its employees and customers. Melanie has also increased Essa-a-Bagel’s visibility with various television appearances on Fox News, Good Day New York and the Profit. In 2016 WPIX asked Ess-a-Bagel to deliver bagels for their daily morning hosts and in return WPIX created a commercial that airs a couple of times day. They will also appear on “The Profit” with Marc Lemonis on August 7th 2018. She has also used social media to help increase Ess-a-Bagel’s loyal following and visibility and is now expanding their presence in New York City by opening a new store on 32nd Street between 6th & 7th Avenue.
Previously Melanie was the Vice President of Legal Sales and Vice President of Outsourcing and Business Development for Swiss Post Solutions, Melanie established the company as the leading expert in the legal industry for onsite outsourcing solutions and generatedrevenues in excess of $2,000,000 per contract. Earlier she rose through the ranks as a Director of Legal Sales and Business Development. She has been a political activist for AIPAC and a fundraiser for Smile Train and Dorot a Jewish agency that provides food, services and care to the elderly. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from Boston University and spent six months abroad at Tel Aviv University.
